The M.S.80 Hawks are in the Championship Game!!!!

The HAWKS are now moving on to the CITY Championships!! 

It’s been over TEN YEARS  since any Bronx Middle School Team has ever made it this far to participate in the City Championships. And the HAWKS were able to show out and earn their win  against the Manhattan Champions - Simon Baruch Middle School (M.S. 104) to advance to the City Finals. Out of 75 Middle School Baseball Teams in New York City, the final four faced off at Central Park on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023 in a single elimination tournament.

(Manhattan Champs) Simon Baruch Middle School (M 104) vs (Bronx Champs) M.S. 80 HAWKS

In the first game Brooklyn Champs (K 318) beat the Queen Champs(Q 190) with a score of 8-6. 

Across the field the HAWKS faced off with Simon Baruch Middle School (M.S. 104) where they took the game in dramatic fashion into extra innings, and Won on  a 2-1 walk-off victory.  

Issaias Santana started the game for the HAWKS. The righty went two innings, allowing zero runs on zero hits and striking out one.  Bryant Salvador threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen. Denzel Mejía earned the win for the HAWKS. Denzel lasted five innings, allowing one hit and zero runs while striking out ten and walking one. The pitching was strong on both sides. The HAWKS pitchers struck out 15, while Baruch Middle School pitchers sat down 12. 

The HAWKS scattered seven hits in the game.  Danyeuris Ortiz and Bryant each had multiple hits. Danyeuris led the HAWKS with 3 hits in four at bats. The game was tied at one with M.S. 80 HAWKS batting in the bottom of the ninth when Issaias Santana drew a walk, scoring one run and taking the Win! 

The HAWKS are now moving on to the CITY Championships against the (Brooklyn Champs) Eugenio Maria De Hostos (K 318)
